Halfway Between the Gutter & the Stars
Halfway is a collection of photograms made in the color darkroom by printing through magazine pages; the front and back of the page merge together to create a third reversed, distorted image. I created each photogram by searching though pop-culture magazines--in essence, our shared cultural scrapbooks--stumbling upon pages where the back and front juxtaposed together creates a new visual communication that at times confuse, and at other times invite viewers to see covert meanings and consequences of how society images women. These re-representations are found objects--chance defines them--however, directed searching and collecting brought them into existence.
